We all love our annual vacation but there are those that never go too far from home and then you find the adventurous types that will travel the world. Whatever your travel interest is you will find a wealth of information online at numerous travel sites. Many people use the internet now to plan even complex travel plans, never seeing a travel agent. Gone are the days when travel agents were popular and sought after as websites have popped up everywhere and promise all of their customer’s extraordinary savings.
This ease doesn’t always hold true however, and I have never been one to trust my entire vacation to a computerized travel site; it just seems a bit too strange to me. I’m old-fashioned and still want to sit down with a travel agent, letting them make my plans for me and I always feel like I will get better results than on a website. A travel agent will also fully expect changes to be made during the booking process and can be more flexible in their approach including when there are problems. The more maddening problem with travel sites arranged vacation is when there is a complaint about some aspect of it; this is the part that lets the whole system down as talking to a human being is not easy, and if you do actually manage to speak to someone, do have any idea where they are?
If you do speak to someone, they may just tell you what you want to hear which is easy and what are the chances you will be able to find them? With a travel agent they are real and I can always go back to them and clarify points especially if something goes wrong. One of my friends only ever uses the travel sites to book her vacations but she does like the last minute discounts that can be found which are much easier to find using the internet. There are always huge savings to be had by waiting until the last possible moment to book but you have to be flexible with your travel arrangements to do this.
I’m not one for last minute travel although I suppose I could be if my schedule was more flexible but my job requires me to ask for vacation months in advance. Other savings to be made using travel sites are the costs of other day trips or tours that are not part of the main vacation. Still after all is said and done I still the use the internet a great deal for my vacation research before I actually go along to see my travel agent as I will have most of the information I require before I see her. I take that information and then see a travel agent because at least I know that if my vacation turns out to be a nightmare, I have someone to come back and yell at.
